Ruleset
Ruleset
As a sub-only tournament, White Belt Warriors follows a modified EBI overtime rules to decide matches when submissions don't happen.
Each competitor gets a chance at their competitor's back. Starting position involves a "seat belt" grip and two leg "hooks" (pictured above).
To fully "escape" from the back, the competitors must turn to face each other ("chest-to-chest"). Defensive submissions such as wrist and ankle locks are allowed and are considered escapes by the ruleset.
Allowable Submissions
Only certain submissions are LEGAL for the safety of all competitors:
Joint locks - arm bars, kimuras, americanas, omoplatas, wrist locks, straight ankle locks
Chokes - triangles (including head-pulling), rear naked chokes, Ezekiel chokes, punch chokes, guillotines (standing and ground), arm triangles, Darce chokes, anaconda chokes, and buggy chokes
IMPORTANT: Knee reaping is allowable in transition, but must be abandoned before 3 seconds, or the reaper will be immediately disqualified.
Explicitly ILLEGAL techniques include:
-Jumping guard
-Scissor takedowns
-Heel hooks
-Twisters/Spinal locks
-Neck cranks
-Slams (even as an escape)
-Bicep/Calf slicers
-Toe holds
-Knee bars
Attempting ANY illegal technique is grounds for immediate disqualification (subject to the referee's discretion)
Arguing with or insulting the referee (or other tournament staff) will result in immediate disqualification and potential exclusion from future tournaments.
NOTICE: We will not be offering refunds to events. You will receive a free credit to the next scheduled event.
Stance on transgender competitors:
Arroyo Grappling Academy allows trans athletes to compete in their preferred gender category so long as they have been on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for at least 24 months. Trans athletes' weights must still fall into the proper category without exception (identical to non-trans athletes).
HRT for trans women involves taking testosterone blockers and supplemental estrogen, which after 3-6 months significantly decreases muscle mass, and increases body fat (MayoClinic). These well-documented effects, along with the existence of strict weight classes, the legality of anabolic steroids in the sport, and the well-known ability of jiu-jitsu technique to overcome differences in size and strength have informed our stance on the issue.
We will not be offering refunds for competitors unaware of this rule. It is well-documented on both the signup form and on this website.
We protect the health information of our competitors, it is not ours to disclose.
